Sometimes I have my “reservations” about certain social networking sites. I was as solid as concrete that I was not going to join Facebook at first and then I did as Hi5 seemed to become a virus haven and MySpace users were just too creepy, even though I’d joined it to keep track of Livvi Franc until I realized I didn’t have to be a member to do that. Then Twitter. I joined it as a way of posting things I couldn’t on FB. And some people actually post interesting articles other than entertainment news.
It’s interesting enough that we’re encouraged to open up a little bit more with others about our private lives but yet we still can’t… What does Twitter allow us to do? Rant, get to know “celebs” and feel more personal with them, share links of what made our day and advertise anything we have going on. But it also allows us to vent about others that annoy us that we can’t go up to and say “you annoy me”. It’s now being pushed that we keep certain pics and comments to ourselves because, if your profile is public, you don’t want your boss to see what you’ve said.
So tell me what exactly I’m sharing in social media? Just pictures of my last trip? How much the dentist hurt me this morning? We’ve opened up our lives to the world but yet our feelings still have to be suppressed because if you dare delete that person that has been ANNOYING you with invites to Facebook events, or kissing up to someone’s ass via Twitter there goes a sore point in the “friendship” and all because you hit that “remove/block” button.
HOW do we say I like you but I can’t take your constant bombarding on my social networking sites? EVERYONE is into the entertainment business now, but do you ever think to remove those from the invites that you don’t ever see at these things?
To bring across my points that others share the same feelings for, here are a few comics to help you understand the pain we feel when we log in sometimes and why we want to delete you and ourselves from these websites.

How to Suck at Facebook http://theoatmeal.com/comics/facebook_suck
The comic said it all.
Oh! How could I possibly forget those who use Blackberry Messenger!!
I’m not even going to create a separate post on that because they can be as equally annoying as those using these websites!!! WHY ON EARTH DO I NEED YOU SENDING ME A REMINDER ABOUT A PARTY OR EVEN TO LOOK OUT FOR SOMEONE ON THE ROAD WHO CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY?!? Do you even look at who you’re sending this shit too?! What’s even worse for me is that I’m 3000+ miles and 3/4 (daylight savings) hours behind you and you can’t take the time to NOT wake me from my sleep about something happening that has NOTHING to do with me? PLEASE take the time to think of those who you have on your lists.
ALL of this is to say, take a minute. Don’t be in a rush to send out things without looking at who you are sending it to. Do you see me playing any games on Facebook? No? DON’T SEND AN INVITE. If I live in another country and you are having a house party next week that you know I WON’T attend, DON’T SEND AN INVITE. Did you receive a personal email from Rim or anyone at your local telephone company about your accounts shutting down or any problems? No? DON’T FORWARD THE MESSAGE TO ME. These sites and messengers would be so much nicer and friendlier if we took the time to think and not just BROADCAST everything as we saw fit. I DON’T CARE if you have 2000+ friends, I’m hoping you’ll remember me from this post and think twice about adding me to anything because if it happens again, I have NO PROBLEM having 10 friends on Facebook, 2 followers on Twitter and only 20 contacts on my bbm. I can block you yes, but what’s the point? I could as well delete.
My final rant is about “your life”.. If you are sooooooooo excited to start the weekend why don’t you do something about it? It’s no one’s fault but yours if you aren’t where you wanted to be in life at the moment. If you can’t do anything about it, MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR LIFE. It’s only YOU stopping your progress! Accept it and move on.
Bless.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT! You have your own opinions as well!
It’s amazing that we can take the simplest things for granted and pine for them deeply when we realize that they’ve been ripped from us.
Sunshine
Oh S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E.
I come from Barbados. Sunshine.
Bronze skin and natural streaks. Sunshine.
Today was gloomy. I pined for Sunshine.
I tried not to be moody, I wanted Sunshine.
Please give me a day,
Or even 5 minutes.
To see a ray,
And not take advantage.
Of a little Sunshine. Sunshine.
Wow that was random but just had to get that out. I must say it was Livvi Franc who sparked this in me. Reading her blog (livvifrancblog.com) gave me that burst. “Love and Sunshine”. Who could ask for more?
With the sun, we have Vitamin D; we feel alive, not suicidal. No gloomy skies to make us ask so many why’s on the inside. To feel the heat on our bodies and not be shuddering from cold. To squint at the sun and see something so powerful beaming down on us. To watch the sunset that so many use as prime “engagement” time. We say the “Sunrise and Sunset” of someone’s life.
Oh sunshine. The sun has set, on another day. But not on my life, I have another day to give thanks for the little things; even for the little sunshine tomorrow may bring.
Bless.
Happy New Year! (I know I’m just over 2 weeks into it but it still counts!)
Resolutions
Sorry I’ve been away so long! I had lots going on over the season and before. I trust the season was good to everyone. I’ve made the decision to not have any resolutions this year. Besides the fact that I forget them after less than a month, I’ve realized that with getting older we should just try to improve our way of lives. People always try to change something physical when they have habits or attitudes that could do with the effort.
So this year I’m trying multiple things in an effort to be a better person at the end of the year. A few are:
- I want to smile more: I’m often pensive and don’t realize how serious my face is.
- I want to be more productive, attempt volunteering somewhere. I’ve been here a year and I’ve settled so it’s time to do more.
- I want to be able to enjoy life to the max and not stress the little things, especially what I cannot control.
- Dinner parties! Enough said :)
It’s just important to look at life and see where you want to be and make small steps. Big steps fade easily, and at the end of the day, if you want a new car or house, it’s your attitude towards responsibility and personal gain that determine what you get and how you get it, not anything physical but mental changes need to occur.
I think I should also resolve to blog at least once a week. I guess part of my motivation should be to post a dish I thoroughly enjoyed for the week plus whatever else is on my mind. But small steps for now :).
Bless
